Coronavirus pandemic is taking a stronger toll on Italian football, with several players testing positive for the dreaded infection, preparatory to the new season.

Three cases were reported on Friday morning by the various outlets in the country,  being fallouts from test carried out on players as they resume at their clubs ahead of the campaign.

Torino in a release, announced that two of their players tested positive for the virus.

"Torino Football Club announce that two players have tested positive for COVID-19 in the tests carried out before the resumption of the preparation," read the  statement.

"The club immediately informed the competent authorities and the two players, currently asymptomatic, are in isolation as per the protocol.

"As a precaution, further investigations are underway for three other players of the first team who in recent days had been in close contact with the positives and who at the moment have not been part of the group."

According to Giornale di Brescia, a Brescia played also tested positive after returning from vacation in Sardinia.

The report claims he has been in touch with other members of the squad, who will undergo the swab test.

The positive player is reportedly feeling fine and is asymptomatic.

Napoli have confirmed Andrea Petagna has tested positive for coronavirus, according to Football Italia.

"Andrea Petagna tested positive for COVID-19 after the medical tests prescribed due to his brother's positivity," the club wrote in a statement.

"Petagna, who is asymptomatic, began the quarantine period at home and after that, he will join the team if the next test is negative."

A few players including Juventus' Paolo Dybala tested positive for the dreaded virus at its outbreak in March, dovetailing in suspension of the 2019-2020 season for about five months.
