In a strong move, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nsukka Zone, has condemned alleged plan to use military to conduct examinations of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).

ASUU accused Prof Charles Eze, the vice-chancellor of the institution of attempting to use the military.

This was disclosed by Dr Igbana Ajir, the zonal coordinator, of ASUU.

According to him, the move is not only barbaric but negates the civil university traditions.

He said:

In another report, the federal government has agreed to provide an additional sum of N15 billion to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

This means a cumulative sum of N65 billion has been provided for the settlement of the lecturers' allowances and the revitalization of the university system.

During a 7-hour meeting on Friday, November 20, it was also agreed that ASUU will be exempted from the Integrated Personnel Payroll System (IPPIS) which has been generating hiccups against the end of the strike action.

Legit.ng noted that this is coming weeks after the federal government insisted that the lecturers' body could not determine how it should be paid to its employers.

Legit.ng also reported that ASUU stated that the federal government was frustrating the union, hence the reason for the ongoing strike.

Speaking on Friday, October 30, on Channels TV, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, the national president of the union, stated that the federal government has not maintained a sincere position in consenting the demands of the union.
