Liverpool Transfer Round-up: Reds 'eye Man City Target' And Rhian Brewster Exit 'likely'

Jürgen Klopp has overseen a rather successful transfer window this summer, with the additions of Thiago Alcântara, Diogo Jota and Kostas Tsimikas all well-received by the Liverpool fanbase.
The club must now trim the fat of their squad, offloading a handful of peripheral figures and younger names unlikely to feature this season. Moves for Marko Grujić, Xherdan Shaqiri and Rhian Brewster have been mooted in recent days; three players currently on the fringes at Anfield.
In terms of incomings, the club’s business is all but complete, and with forward-planning in mind, are looking ahead to the next few transfer windows. Klopp and his recruitment team will be keen to lay the foundations for future moves, which will no doubt include some star names.
Here is the latest Liverpool transfer round-up.
Brewster exit likely
Young striker Rhian Brewster’s future could be decided before the transfer window closes, with the 20-year-old heavily linked with a move away from Anfield.
The Independent report Sheffield United remain front-runners in the pursuit, despite no formal bids having been lodged. Although, it is understood enquiries have been made with discussions between Klopp and Chris Wilder having taken place.
The England U21 forward was not involved in Liverpool’s 7-2 Carabao Cup rout of Lincoln City this week, a game he would typically have been set to feature in. This has fuelled rumours that an exit is imminent, his non-appearance indicating the club were protecting the youngster against picking up an injury which may jeopardise any transfer.
Brewster’s price tag is set at £25million with a number of clubs circling alongside the Blades, including Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace.
Negotiations between Olympiacos and Liverpool saw Tsimikas join the Reds earlier this summer, but the Greek side may be about to poach one of Liverpool’s youngsters in return.
According to Inside Futbol, Yasser Larouci is the player on the Greek club’s radar, with the left-back a potential Tsimikas replacement. The 19-year-old has featured on two occasions for the first-team but is into the final twelve months of his contract at Anfield.
With the addition of Tsimikas, Neco Williams’ emergence as a viable full-back alternative and the imperious form of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson, Larouci is unlikely to be offered a new deal.
Olympiacos are said to be keen on offering the Algerian a route out of Liverpool, with the likelihood of first-team football set to be a considerable pull factor. The former Le Havre academy prospect has extensive experience at junior levels for Liverpool, but the jump to first-team action is a challenge he has proved unable to mount.
Reds attempt to snare City target
While the succession plan for Liverpool’s front three is already in motion following the acquisition of Jota, the club could be about to spoil their closest rivals’ own plan to replace long-term defensive stalwart Vincent Kompany.
Manchester City’s pursuit of Kalidou Koulibaly has been a lengthy one, stretching back to last summer following Kompany’s departure, but Liverpool are being linked with hijacking that move.
The Daily Express report Koulibaly could be subject to a bid from Liverpool, spurning City’s chances of solving their defensive woes which contributed to nine league defeats last season.
A potential fee has proved troublesome in City’s attempts to sign the Senegalese centre-back, and it could well be a similar story for Liverpool. However, the prospect of signing a defender with such pedigree to play alongside Virgil van Dijk is an enticing one for any top level manager, Klopp included
