Liverpool Transfer Round-up: Upamecano On Reds' Radar As Wilson Future Uncertain

Liverpool’s transfer business was conducted prior to the frantic rush of deadline day this summer, with Kostas Tsimikas, Diogo Jota and Thiago Alcântara all joining long before the window closed.
Much of Liverpool ’s late activity concerned outgoings, with Rhian Brewster sealing an initial £18million switch to Sheffield United and Marko Grujić heading to Porto on a season-long loan.
The club were unable to move on a number of fringe players including Harry Wilson and Xherdan Shaqiri, but there remains hope that deals can be struck with EFL clubs as the domestic window does not close until 5pm on October 16.
Here is the Liverpool transfer round-up on Thursday October 8.
Liverpool loanee faces Champions League clash with City
Jürgen Klopp’s first signing as Liverpool boss, Marko Grujić has joined Porto in Portugal on a third loan deal in as many seasons.
The Serbian has spent the past two years with Hertha Berlin in Germany, but this year sealed a switch to Champions League outfit Porto.
According to HITC, Liverpool supporters have commended chief negotiator Michael Edwards for his efforts at placing an unwanted first-team player at a prestigious club – and particularly one who will face Liverpool’s title rivals twice this season.
Grujić could yet return to Anfield and prove to be a useful player for Klopp, especially if he moves Fabinho to centre-back on a more regular basis.
The 24-year-old is still young and a season at Champions League level is bound to benefit the player who was one of Hertha’s most consistent performers throughout the past two Bundesliga campaigns.
Upamecano in Liverpool’s sights for next summer
RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano could be in his final year with the German side, despite recently signing a new deal at the club.
It has been revealed that the Frenchman has a £36.5million release clause which becomes active next summer, meaning a whole host of top clubs will be chasing the signing of a first-rate international defender.
Sport Bild report Liverpool could muscle their way into negotiations ahead of long-time admirers and close rivals Manchester United, being able to guarantee Champions League football and the possibility of challenging for titles on multiple fronts.
Jürgen Klopp may well be in the market for a new centre-back next summer as his side have shipped an unprecedented 11 goals in their opening four Premier League matches this season – only West Bromwich Albion have conceded more.
Fringe duo priced too high for interested clubs
Liverpool’s attacking midfield pair Harry Wilson and Xherdan Shaqiri are set to be sold in this season’s winter transfer window, according to the Daily Star.
However, the duo could pose a problem to Jürgen Klopp as they will need to feature more regularly if the Reds are to stand a chance of receiving their desired £20million for each.
WalesOnline report that wide-man Harry Wilson was considered by Leeds United, but the Whites deemed the player unworthy of such a fee and instead moved for Raphinha from Stade Rennais.
Consequently, Wilson finds himself marooned at Liverpool with no indication that he will oust attacking quartet Sadio Mané, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino or Diogo Jota for an extended run in the first team.
Also reported by WalesOnline, Burnley were said to be interested in Wilson but saw a £16million bid rebuffed.
Wilson's chances of regular action have now been reduced too, after he was left out of Liverpool's Champions League squad, while Shaqiri was included.
