Up until now, Samsung phone owners have the option to use the company's Find My Mobile as well as Google's Find My Device to locate misplaced or stolen phones. Today, Samsung is introducing a new service called SmartThings Find. It works on all Galaxy phones and tablets running Android 8 or later and can also be used to track wearables like Galaxy Watch devices (running Tizen 5.5 and above) as well as Galaxy Buds Live and Buds Plus. It's part of a new update to Samsung's SmartThings app and is already up and running in most regions around the world.

The service comes with some cool new features like AR-based Search Nearby which guides you to your misplaced device in real time.

It relies on Ultra-wideband (UWB) and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to locate your missing Galaxy devices. Ultra-wideband is currently exclusive to the Galaxy Note20 series and Z Fold 2. It has an advantage over Bluetooth in that it operates at a higher frequency which is handy for spatial and directional data.

SmartThings Find also gives you the option to opt in to let other Galaxy users find your lost devices even if it is offline. If a device is offline for over 30 minutes it will start emitting a BLE signal which can be picked up by other Galaxy devices.
