As coronavirus rages on in the world, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 77 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.

According to the agency on Friday, October 23, the 77 new cases brought the nation's confirmed cases to 61,882, the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports.

The latest update shows that the country recorded 77 new infections with two COVID-19 related deaths in 10 states and the Federal Capital Territory in the last 24 hours in the country.

The public health agency said that the number of recoveries stood at 57,190, as 205 patients were discharged across the nation Others are: Osun state with 3 cases of the virus, Ondo, Sokoto, Kwara and Benue confirmed 2 cases each, while Imo and Ogun reported 1 case each.Lagos state recorded maintains the highest with 11 cases, while Kaduna, Rivers and FCT confirmed 20, 19 and 4 new cases.

In a related development, Legit.ng reported that Nigerians were warned that the coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the country might spread in the next two weeks.

Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman, Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 said this is as a result of the ongoing EndSARS protest.

Mustapha said if a test is carried out on the protesters, it will be discovered that many of those who protested at the Lekki toll plaza would have contracted the disease.

Similarly, Legit.ng earlier reported that 181 students and staff of a private boarding school in Lekki, Lagos tested positive for coronavirus.
