Heartburn is not a good thing. It leads to the damage of esophagus which results in esophagus cancer. If you know someone who experiences heartburn regularly, share this article to them. Prevention is better than cure.

I hope to solve the problems of people who have heart burns whenever they eat certain foods like beans. If you can follow the highlighted guidelines in this article, you will be able to deal with the burning sensation in your stomach when you eat beans.

What is Heartburn?

Heartburn does not necessarily mean the burning of the heart like the name sounds. Heartburn is the burning sensation that is felt in the stomach or possibly the gullet after eating.

The pain increases when lying down.

Heart burn is not caused by any underlying ailments but the wrong consumption of food (may be eating it at the wrong time or cooking it in the wrong way) may trigger heartburn.

Heartburn happens when the stomach acid flows back up into the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach. In a simple term, when the acid in your stomach flows back into your esophagus, heart burn occurs. It is called acid reflux.

There are so many causes of heart burn but Beans is the most common cause of heartburn in this part of the world.

Why does the consumption of beans cause heartburn?

Beans are nutritious but they also contain a high concentration of fiber. Fiber is that part of a fruit or vegetable which takes lots of time to breakdown/digest. During the process of breaking down this fiber, fermentation takes place in the stomach and releases gas from the chemical reactions between the food and some stomach acid.

The problem that occurs during this process is when the stomach becomes full of acid at that time, some acids will return back to the esophagus. When this happens, it is a normal thing to experience a heartburning sensation.

I have decided to shed light on how and when to eat beans so that this heartburn will not occur.

Guidelines

The first thing is the type of beans you eat. Avoid eating white beans. They are not meant for eating. They are meant for preparing Akara or moi-moi. The best beans you should eat are brown beans, precisely the honey brown beans.

Before you put your beans on fire, try to soak it in water for about 3-4hours.

If you cannot afford to wait then, you can parboil it just like you parboil rice.

Cook it the normal way but reduce the amount of pepper and salt that you add to it. Make sure you it is very soft before you take it off fire. Very soft that it will be easily broken down in your stomach.

Do not eat it late in the evening, like 6 pm beyond. Eat it between 9am- 5pm.

Immediately after eating, do not go to bed. Try to walk around or do some things that will make your sweat so that the fiber will be easily digested.

Lastly, make sure you drink water at every interval.

Trust me, if you try this, you would not have any problem eating beans.
