~1.2 mins read
A businesswoman, Asiata Oladejo, told a Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan to grant her divorce on the grounds that her estranged husband, Abidemi was undependable and has abandoned her at the mercy of armed robbers.

Oladejo, made the submission on Wednesday in her counter argument in the divorce suit filed by her husband.

”My Lord, I am yet to recover from the shock I experienced when a gang of thieves caused an uproar in out house.

”He hid in the toilet, leaving me to pant in front of armed robbers who terrorised the entire residents of the house.

“My lord, when the thieves arrived at around 1 a.m. on that night, my husband was nowhere to be found to defend the children and I.

“Unknown to me, he hid in the toilet. He only came out when they had gone. My husband wanted us to continue living in that house,” she said..

She said that she begged him to rent another apartment, but he refused.

She accused her husband of being a habitual womaniser.

Abidemi, who is a fashion designer , earlier said that his wife was ill=tempered.

”She comes to my shop unannounced to torment me.

”It is true that I hid in the toilet when armed robbers attacked our house. All the attemptsI made to bring her back back home, failed because she said she was unnecessarily scared,” he said.

He prayed the court to grant him custody of the three children because he had been a responsible father.

ASUU Extends Strike
~0.6 mins read
ASUU, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, has added another four weeks to the ongoing strike that was first initiated more than five months ago.

Recall that on February 14, 2022, public universities were closed by striking lecturers because the Federal Government was unable to put the Memorandum of Action (MoA) that the two parties had signed in 2020 into effect.

In a statement released on Monday, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, the national president of ASUU, said the decision to extend the strike was made to give the FG more time to settle all of the pressing problems brought up.

The event followed an emergency meeting of the union’s National Executive Council convened on Sunday at the Comrade Festus Iyayi National Secretariat in Abuja.

Limit Your Okro Intake If You Are Suffering From Any Of These 4 Medical Conditions
~1.6 mins read
Okra, often known as "lady's finger" or "bamia pod," is a Malvaceae family perennial flowering plant. It is a plant native to tropical and warm areas, and its green pods have made it quite valuable. Okra is a nutritious vegetable that is used in a variety of foods and cuisines. However, there is some disagreement over this vegetable's ancestry.

Okra is good for your health because it contains several necessary vitamins and minerals. Okra has no cholesterol or saturated fats, and it has a relatively low calorie count. It is abundant in dietary fiber, mucilage, and folates, all of which have important nutritional advantages. Vitamins A, C, and B-complex vitamins like niacin, thiamine, pantothenic acid, and vitamin B-6 are all abundant in okra. Okra contains important minerals like calcium, iron, manganese, and magnesium.

Okra, like many vegetables, provides health advantages since it contains a lot of fiber and antioxidants. But for some people, consuming too much okra can have negative effects.

According to Medicalnewstoday & WebMD, you need to limit your okra intake if you have any of the following medical conditions:

1. Gastrointestinal problem

Fructans, a type of carbohydrate that the body finds challenging to digest, are found in okra. People who already have digestive issues may have diarrhea, gas, flatulence, abdominal cramping, and bloating from fructans.

2. Kidney stones

Crystals of oxalates are abundant in okra. These crystals could adhere to one another and solidify (a kidney stone). One type of chemical that might cause crystals to grow in the urine is oxalate. If there is too much oxalate and not enough liquid, calcium may "stick" to the oxalate as urine is produced by the kidneys. Yes, excessive okra water consumption can result in kidney stones, however this is extremely uncommon.

3. Arthritis

Solanine, a poisonous substance found in okra, may make joint problems like arthritis sufferers' sensations of pain and inflammation worse.

4. Blood clotting problem

Okra has a high vitamin K content, which may interact with blood-thinning drugs like Coumadin. Vitamin K aids in blood clotting (warfarin). Before including okra in their diet, people taking blood thinners should exercise caution and talk to their doctor.

Driver Forgets Where He Parked His Boss Vehicle After Getting Drunk
~1.2 mins read
A 43-year-old driver identified as Samuel Lawal got drunk and forgot where he parked his employer's car.

Officials of Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) recovered the 2014 Nissan Altima car abandoned by the drunk driver at Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos since late Saturday night.

The driver, a resident of Magodo Estate abandoned his boss’ vehicle at Allen Avenue after getting drunk at Fela’s Shrine on Saturday night, July 30.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Lawal after dropping his boss (name withheld) at his residence in Magodo Phase 1, used the car to party around Fela Shrine, Ikeja.

It was also gathered that the suspect woke up on Sunday morning with the car key in his pocket and not knowing where he had parked the vehicle.

According to his statement to the police, "I tried looking for the car. I re-traced my steps back to African Shrine trying to ascertain if I had forgot the car there. All means to recover the vehicle proved futile. I had no alternative than to lie to my boss that I was robbed and that the vehicle had been driven away,"

The owner of the vehicle (names withheld) revealed that though he recruited Lawal about four months ago, he had never been untruthful or shady, adding that he had been a hard-working driver.

The puzzled boss decided to inform RRS after the driver became unreachable on Sunday.

The driver was picked up for questioning and the vehicle traced to Allen Avenue where it was recovered with all the side glasses wound down with a bottle of dry gin beside the driver's seat.

The driver and vehicle have been released.

Trouble As Professor Soyinka Drops Bombshell Over Lawmakers' Move For Buhari's Impeachment.
~2.8 mins read
The move by lawmakers to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari over the growing insecurity in Nigeria, especially in the Federal Capital Territory has received a major boost as Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka gives his two pence.

Speaking at an interactive session to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Abeokuta Club on Tuesday, August 2, Soyinka said good governance or misgovernance, the contract called democracy, indicated a contract on which a candidate is either accepted or rejected due to his manifesto.

PM News reports that Soyinka added that misgovernance is one of the ways a democracy contract is broken and thus possible impeachment.

His words:

“Very often, the grounds for breach of contract, I think we all agree is mis-governance and one of the ways of breaking this kind of contract, we know even before the duration of a contract is known as impeachment.
“And reason we will go by some legislators to impeach the president who is the head of government. In fact, one cleric has gone even further, he believes that the impeachment should take place, not in the legislative home.
"But in the bush with the kidnappers and he appealed to the kidnappers to quicken the process by impeaching the president and take him away and some of his aides and one or two governors."

He further stated that the decision of the president to choose his successor is also a breach of the contract of democracy.

He added:

“In any democracy, any president, any prime minister or whatever is entitled to one vote, we are not saying we should disenfranchise somebody because they are on top of governance.
"They had their right to campaign for any candidate they like but there is nothing in any constitution that I know of in any democratic constitution which says that the head of government should appoint his or her successor."
Leaders who have failed the Nigerian system

Noting that leaders including governors, and chairmen of local government areas have continued to fail the country.

He also said that he heard some governors had visited the president who is known to have failed in his duty as a leader to demand that he give them a successor.

A failure that should give rise to another failure of eight years, the Nobel laureate added.

He said

“So, those who feel that those governors who went to Buhari to give us a successor should also be impeached, can I please see your hands up in the air?
“I hope the governors will make a note of that, please stop desecrating democracy by trying to enthrone the nastic rule by the back door because that is what these governors did to intrigue a dynasty of failure, that is the meaning of that appeal to the outgoing president that, please, give us a successor.
"In fact, it is not democracy and that is not a respect of contract with the people of democracy."
Prominent APC senator backs call to impeach Buhari
More federal lawmakers are now backing the widespread call for President Muhammadu Buhari to be impeached.

One of those who lent his voice to the growing call was Senator Elisha Abbo of the APC on Friday, July 29.

In Abbo's view, President Buhari should leave office because he has failed Nigerians in terms of security.

Buhari’s impeachment: Nigerian senators hold close-door meeting
Amid calls for Buhari's impeachment, some lawmakers were in a closed-door meeting.

Those in separate meetings over the issues were senators of the opposition parties and their counterparts in the House of Representatives.

It was gathered that after the separate meetings, the lawmakers of the lower and upper chambers are expected to harmonise their positions and issue a public statement afterwards.
