Ondo Loggers Block Benin-Lagos Highway To Protest Against Extortion
~1.6 mins read
MEMBERS of the Flitchers Association in Ondo State recently barricaded the Benin/Ore/Lagos Expressway in protest against alleged illegal extortion.

They accused officials of Ogun State Government of extortion in the name of collecting revenue from them, while transporting planks and teak wood through Ogun State.

Traffic at Ajebandele, the Produce Control Post between Ondo and Ogun states, was disrupted for hours as the protesters blocked the highway thereby causing temporary hardship for commuters.

The protesters who displayed placards with various inscriptions alleged that many of their members have suffered physical assaults from agents of the Ogun State Government at any slight provocation.

The placards read: Enough of Harassment from Ogun State; Enough of Illegal Charges by Ogun State Government; Stop Attacking Our Trucks; Abiodun Call Your Men to Order; Enough of Harassment by Ogun State Tax Collectors; Stop Illegal Ticketing; Stop Unlawful Arrests of Our People by Ogun State Agents, among others.

Speaking with newsmen, Chairman of the Flitchers Association, Mr. Aro David, alleged that officials of the Ogun State Government collect money from them while driving through Ogun State to Lagos.

David said: “While the Ondo State Government, from where the planks emanated, collects only N7,000 at Produce Post, Ogun State Government officials, that are supposed to collect only N3,000, ended up extorting over N35,000 from us under various headings.

“We have been subjected at various times to physical harassment whenever we tried to explain things to these illegal tax collectors on the Federal Government Expressway.

“My members in Ondo State can no longer tolerate these illegalities and we are calling on Governor Dapo Abiodun to call these collectors and consultants to order.

“These planks originated from Ondo and Edo states and our colleagues in Edo State are also complaining that Ogun State which is just a passage, collect N35,000 while the owner of the planks, collects maximum of N10,000 only. This is barbaric and cheating. We are going to resist this.

“We, hereby, give Ogun State Government ultimatum of seven days, to correct this illegality and do what is right. Should government fail to address our grievances, it will strain the relationship between Ondo and Ogun states and we are ready for the confrontation.”

What Are Boko Haram Terrorists Doing With A Sewing Machine? (See Photos)
~1.6 mins read

Along Gulwa and Musuri in Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State, gallant Nigerian troops killed several Boko Haram terrorists after heavy fighting in the early hours of today, Monday 15 March 2021.

Incriminating materials including AK47 rifles, Fabric Nationale (FN) rifles, a motorcycle, bicycles, mechanic tool boxes, large quantity of batteries used for making of Improvise Explosive Devices, sex enhancement drugs and a sewing machine amongst other things.

One of the unlikely thing on the list of items recovered is the "sewing machine". Many people would ask the question, "why do these terrorists need a sewing machine?"

Well, the answer may not be far fetched. This sewing machine can be used in sewing headbands, cloths (uniforms or military fatigues) for Boko Haram fighters. It can also be used in preparing the Boko Haram flags.

The men who commit terrorist acts in Boko Haram’s name are often seen in propaganda videos wearing the same sort of headbands, flags and clothing. Most of these wears may be sewed by tailors in the ranks of the insurgents. See example below;

Apart from using it to sew uniforms and headbands for their fighters, what else do you think Boko Haram Terrorists need the sewing machine for?

Netflix Leads Oscar Nominations Again: 35 Overall, 10 For 'Mank'
~2.0 mins read

Netflix's heavy investments in original content seem to be paying off in prestige, as well as subscriptions.

For the second year in a row, the streaming service beat out the legacy film studios and other streamers on Academy Award nominations, this year with 35 total.

Last year, Netflix earned 24, although it won just two — and has yet to win a Best Picture Oscar.

Netflix also made this year’s most-nominated single film: David Fincher’s “Mank,” which earned 10, including for Best Picture, director, actor (Gary Oldman) and supporting actress (Amanda Seyfried).

Other Netflix films with multiple nominations include “The Trial of the Chicago 7” (six, including Best Picture), “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” (five), and “Hillbilly Elegy (two).

Netflix also logged the most wins at this year's Golden Globes.

Amazon Prime Video came in second for Oscar nominations this year, with 12.

“Sound of Metal” was nominated for Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor (Riz Ahmed), Best Supporting Actor (Paul Raci), film editing and sound.

“One Night in Miami” earned three nominations, including Best Supporting Actor (Leslie Odom, Jr.). “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” got nods for supporting actress (Maria Bakalova) and adapted screenplay.

In addition, Apple TV+ and Disney+ — both launched just 16 month ago — each earned their first Oscar nominations.

Apple received nominations for Best Animated Feature for “Wolfwalkers” and for sound for “Greyhound.”

Disney+’s “The One and Only Ivan” was nominated for visual effects.

Due to theater closures during the pandemic, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences changed this year’s eligibility rules to allow films to qualify for Oscar consideration without a theatrical release.

A 43-year-old housewife, Bisola Awodele, has poured hot water on her husband whom she accused of drunkenness and not responsible for the family welfare.

The mother-of-five, who is now in police custody at Sango Ota, on interrogation, confirmed her action, according to the police, explaining that her husband is fond of getting home drunk everyday. She said she had cautioned him several times but he failed to change.

According to the Ogun State Police Spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who made this known on Sunday , said the suspect was arrested on March 8, following a report by the husband, Peter Phillips. adding that the hot water had caused the victim a grievous harm.

“On interrogation, the suspect explained to the police how her husband is fond of coming home drunk always without contributing anything to the welfare of her and the children. She stated further that on that fateful day, the husband came home drunk as usual, and while she was complaining about the husband act of drunkenness, the man started insulting her and her parents which infuriated her, consequence of which she poured the hot water on his body”, he added.

The police spokesperson said preliminary investigation also revealed that the suspect gave birth to a baby about eight months ago, but killed and secretly buried the baby out of frustration.
The police investigating team had since followed her to the secret grave of the dead baby, where the corpse was exhumed.

POLICE OFFICER SNATCHES ANOTHER MAN'S WIFE AND ARREST HER SON FOR CHALLENGING HIM
~1.5 mins read
A serving policeman, ASP Danladi Edibo, attached to the anti-cult unit in Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, has allegedly handcuffed and detained a 22-year-old man, Mr. Chukwunonso Ikenna Ogbukagu, for disapproving his relationship with his mother, Mrs. Ogbukagu.

Chukwunonso, who revealed this to journalists after he escaped from the unlawful detention, said he visited Nimo, a town in Njikoka LGA to see his mother who recently left his dad to rent a separate house, but noticed that the mother had a male friend who always visited her in the apartment.

“When I demanded from my mother who the man was, I found out it was the same police officer, ASP Danladi who had a problem with my father, who also caused my parents to separate.

The man knowing that I had noticed who he was now called some policemen who came with guns and handcuffed me and detained me in a toilet in the apartment. I stayed there for four days without food or water, and later I realized that I may die if I continue to be here, so I summoned courage and escaped,” he said.

He begged the State police command to come to his aid, as his life was in danger, as the Edibo may come after him. Meanwhile, the father of the victim, Chief Ikenna Ogbukagu has petitioned the Anambra State Police Commissioner, CP Monday Bala Kuryas, called for the restraint of ASP Edibo from further harassing him and members of his family.

In an interview, he further stated that, “ASP Danladi Edibo has been harassing me and members of my family. He collected my wife from me, and I said I have no problem with that, that he can keep her. He has taken her, and rented a house for her in Nimo, and I did not protest, yet he has been threatening me.

“Last year, he came to my house at about 1am with police officers, destroyed my doors and arrested me, saying that I sponsor cultists. There is nothing he has not done to me. I am very afraid for my life now, that is why I petitioned the commissioner to come to my aid.”
