Oyo Farmers Flee As Herdsmen Attack Igangan Again
~4.7 mins read
There is renewed tension in the Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State following the alleged takeover of two villages by some herdsmen.

The two villages, Kajola and Gbagba Idere are located in the Ayete Local Government Area of the state.

Residents of Ayete told our correspondent that a Fulani herdsman, Iskilu Wakil, was asked to leave the villages because he did not buy the land he was occupying.

This was said to have infuriated the herder, who claimed he was a combatant with arms and ammunition.

The Asawo of Ayete, Oba Emmanuel Okeniyi, said those who have farms in the villages had fled the places over fear they might be attacked by Wakil.

Oba Okeniyi said, “They asked him to leave the area. I don’t think he bought the land from anybody and the owners of the land asked him to leave. But rather than leaving, he has become a terror. The Fulani there usually destroy their farms.

“The farmers in the villages have fled their places, they are just loafing about now. Government has deployed Amotekun personnel in Ayete. They came yesterday (Friday) but I haven’t heard that they have gone to those villages”

A resident of Ayete, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that Wakil and his followers barricaded the road leading to the villages, adding that they threatened to shoot dead any villager who moved close to the place.

He said, “This started three days ago. The villagers had fled the place. The Amotekun personnel deployed by Oyo State Government are in Ayete, they have not gone to those villages. The police are not going there despite the several distress calls made to them.

“The hunters in the town are ready to face Wakil and his followers but they are afraid because they believe if they fight and kill him, the Federal Government will move against them. But the same Federal Government is not doing anything to ameliorate the plight of the people now. People believe fighting against herdsmen is like fighting against the Federal Government.

“One of the sons of Seriki Fulani who fled Igangan told me that Yoruba people should bring Sunday Igboho to face Wakil. He said he would finish him and his followers.”

In a related development, it was gathered that there was tension in Igangan on Saturday following the alleged attack on a 65-year-old man, Adekola Adeyemo, and Jamiu Saedu, aged 30 by herdsmen.

The two of them were said to have been attacked with machete cuts on their heads.

They were in their house sleeping when two herdsmen attacked them and inflicted machete cut injuries on their heads.

One of the prominent persons in Igangan, Mr Taiwo Adeagbo, told our correspondent that the two victims of herdsmen attack were admitted at Fumilayo Clinic, Oke Ola and that the case was reported to the Divisional Crime Officer.

However, when contacted, the Asigangan of Igangan, Oba Lasisi Adeoye, said he was not aware of the fresh attack.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, when contacted also said he had not been briefed about the incident at Ayete and the fresh attack in Igangan.

He said, “I have not been informed of anything like that. But if there is any threat to anybody’s life, let them report to the police and the matter will be taken up from there.

“ That is the reason the police are there, they should report to the police.”

Sarki’s eviction: Tension in Igangan over fear of reprisals

The inhabitants of Igangan community in Oyo State are currently living in fear of possible reprisals by herders in reaction to their eviction from the community, following the ultimatum given to them by a Yoruba rights activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a Sunday Igboho.

Recall that angry protesters allegedly set ablaze the Igangan home of the Seriki Fulani at the expiration of the eviction notice issued by Igboho, after his visit to the town in company with the police Area Commander at Eruwa.

While the Seriki Fulani had alleged that Igboho led the attack which, he claimed, resulted in the killing of seven of his men in the community, the National Public Relations Officer, Odua Peoples Congress, New Era, Akinpelu Adesina, described the allegation as false and unfounded.

Against the backdrop of the attack on Igboho’s Soka, Ibadan residence, the Igangan community said a reprisal against them was possible.

The community leaders, comprising the Asigangan of Igangan, Oba Adewuyi Olaoye; the Asigangan-in-Council, community leaders and youth groups, indicated that precautionary measures were being put in place to forestall possible attack by the herders.

Oba Olaoye, in an interview with our correspondent, confirmed that traditional Oro rites had been made to appease the gods of the land for protection and a dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed on Igangan communities as part of the security measures.

The monarch, who said the community had long been under the siege of killer herders, called for investigation into the alleged atrocities and criminal acts by the Seriki.

The Convener, Igangan Development Advocates, Oladokun Oladiran, said the community was awaiting the deployment of the 200 Amotekun operatives promised by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to further curb insecurity.

He said, “In Igangan, a 5am to 9pm curfew has been put in place to monitor movement of people in an effort to secure the lives and property of the residents.

“It was the joint decision of the monarch, the chiefs, the council of elders and associations in Igangan. The Operation Burst has been deployed to resume patrol including the local vigilante group.

“The Fulani are still in our midst as we speak. They are still at Ile Bamogba in Igangan. They are living peacefully and are going about their daily activities without any threat.

“We continue to live in peace with the Fulani people in Igangan; those ones have stayed with us for many years. Igangan and the entire Ibarapa are rising against the crime lord. We are talking of somebody who has turned crime into business, who is making millions from kidnappings, regardless of the lives lost in the process.”

#LekkiShooting: Our Hospital Was Overwhelmed On First Night – Babajide Lawson
~4.6 mins read
The number of patients shot or injured at the Lekki toll gate shooting, who were brought to a hospital, were so many that they overwhelmed the hospital, an official has said.

Babajide Lawson, a trauma and orthopaedic surgeon at Reddington Hospital, Lagos, on Saturday said there was a large number of patients on the night of October 20, after soldiers opened fire on peaceful protesters at the Lekki toll plaza.

Mr Lawson, while testifying before a Judicial Panel of Inquiry investigating the incident, said due to the crowd, there is a likelihood that the hospital did not capture the records of all the patients.

“On the night of this event, in the Lekki facility, when patients were brought in, it was a mass gathering situation in which case you have a large number of people presenting at the same time, literarily overwhelming the facility,” Mr Lawson said.

“In that kind of situation, there are lots of cases that might be compromised. If this patient says he was treated at the hospital, he can present at the hospital and get a medical report.”

The surgeon spoke during cross-examination by a lawyer to some of the victims of the shooting, Olumide Fusika, who asked him whether he authored any of the medical reports tendered to the panel.

Mr Lawson said he did not author any of the reports as it was the duty of doctors handling the patients.

“You will agree that there is none for Samuel Asola, who is a petitioner before this panel and my own client,” Mr Fusika had said.

“This client of mine says he was treated of gunshot wounds at your facility. He has pictorial proof of being actually treated. If that were to be true, it means your evidence before this panel is not comprehensive, it is not exhaustive of the people you treated of gunshot of wounds.”

The lawyer further asked whether the hospital extracted pellets from the patients as there were many cases of gunshots, especially in the case of Nnaji Mabel who had a pellet in her abdomen.

“As indicated in the report, we did not extract the pellet. I admitted the responsibility, we reviewed her CT and records, we determined that she did not need anything extensive, and she was treated and allowed to go,” the surgeon responded.

“It’s normal to have pellets in your body and just go home?” Mr Fusika further queried.

“Yes, it is possible. If there is a gunshot injury and the bullet does not in any way endanger the body, the pellet can remain,” Mr Lawson said.

The surgeon said some pellets were removed but, according to medical protocols, the police will be invited and the pellets handed over to them.

He added that other patients sustained “entry” and “exit” bullet wounds.

“In normal process, protocol is that if there is a gunshot injury and extracted the bullet, the police will have to come and the bullet be handed over.

“For the patients I treated, I did not extract any bullet; the patient that had pellet did not require a removal,” he said.

Earlier, while giving his evidence, Mr Lawson said the number of victims of the shooting who visited the hospital tripled after the first night.

“Being in charge of trauma means anybody that is involved in any form of traumatic injury, accident, gunshot and others will have to go through me first. I saw a couple of them, the ones that needed admission, I admitted and the ones that did not were taken care of.

“The thing is on that October 20, a lot of patients presented at the Lekki office, that’s the Lekki hospital. I was shuttling between there and the VI office, which I represent.

“Later on the night of 20th, I also went to the Lekki office to access and determine what amount of assistance they would require from me. I transferred some of the patients from the Lekki Hospital to the VI office.

“On the first night, there were about six patients that I saw, subsequently, other patients came, tripled in, as days continued.”

The surgeon said the patients had varying degrees of injuries and were treated.

The hospital had earlier appeared before the panel on January 6, to represent medical reports of about 20 patients who were brought to the hospital on the night of the Lekki Shooting.

‘Medical reports do not add up’

Olukayode Enitan, the lawyer to the Lagos State Government, said many of the medical reports presented by Reddington hospital did not add up.

He said he applied for the case notes of the patients to further clarify the position of the hospital.

“We applied to Reddington Hospital; we requested the hospital to produce the case notes of the patients whose reports have been presented. The reason for this is that when we went through the reports, too many of them do not add up, some are outrightly contradictory.

“We believe that the case notes will more than likely shed light on whatever it is. If it is a summation of actual events, the case not will show that, that is why we made that application.

“It is very necessary that we have the case notes before the doctors are presented for cross-examination,” Mr Enitan said.

Jonathan Ogunsanya, the lawyer to the panel, said the hospital has been served to present the case notes.

The hospital’s lawyer admitted they were served on Friday.

“We didn’t have enough time to go through the necessary process as required. However, we are able to prepare one or two, because there were different batches of patients that were treated.”

Dorris Okuwobi, the chair of the panel, ruled that case notes should not stop the presentation of evidence of the doctors and another date can be given for cross-examination.

Mrs Okuwobi, a retired judge, adjourned the matter till February 12 to allow the state government’s lawyer cross-examine Mr Lawson.

Chinese Girl, 16, Undergoes 100 Cosmetic Surgeries To Improve Her Looks
~3.1 mins read
A 16-year-old girl known as “China’s youngest plastic surgery addict” claims to have undergone no less than 100 invasive cosmetic procedures over 3 years, in a bid to improve her looks.

Zhou Chuna, a young Chinese influencer with over 300,000 followers on microblogging platform Sina Weibo, has built her online career on plastic surgery, documenting her extreme transformation from a normal-looking girl to a doll-like idol over a period of three years.

She’s not the only girl to have turned to cosmetic enhancements at a very young age, but Zhou Chuna’s case is considered unique because of the sheer number of procedures she has had done (around 100) in a relatively short period of time (3 years).

Despite claiming to have experienced severe side-effects due to her addiction to plastic surgery, like memory loss and permanent scarring, the 16-year-old says it’s all worth it.

Zhou always tells her online followers that she used to be very ugly before she discovered plastic surgery. She described her eyes as too small, and her nose as too big, and reminisced about how her colleagues made fun of her because of her appearance.

They gave her humiliating nicknames, made cruel jokes, and always gave her the hardest tasks on class cleanup duty, while the pretty girls always had it easy. She quickly realized that her life would not get better unless her looks improved.

At age 13, Zhou Chuna started pestering her parents to pay for a double eyelid surgery, a popular surgical procedure among Asian women, and despite early resistance, she got them to finance her dream.

People tried to discourage her, saying that the plastic surgery would make her look too old for her age, but she only noticed an improvement in how people treated her.

“Everyone’s attitude towards me became more friendly after the double eyelid surgery, and I tasted the sweet fruits of plastic surgery,” the young girl told her followers, adding that it wasn’t long before she went under the knife for the second time, then the third, and so on.

Over the last 3 years, Zhou Chuna allegedly underwent around 100 different cosmetic procedures, from simple fillers, to ear cartilage rhinoplasty, “Barbie eye surgery”, breast implants, and liposuction. She slowed down the rate at which she went under the knife when the pandemic hit China, but she still had 20 procedures in the last year alone, and she’s not planning on stopping anytime soon.

The girl claims to have spent a small fortune on her plastic surgery addiction, 4 million yuan ($620,000), most of which came from her parents, who own a profitable company.

What kind of parents would support this sort of behavior, you may ask, but Zhou claims that she never gave her family much choice. She threatened them that she would quit school and still find a way to pay for her surgeries, if they refused to support her. This way, at least they know she gets operated on by professional doctors, at certified clinics.

“I will never be satisfied with my appearance,” the 16-year-old said. “I always think I will look better after the next plastic surgery I get. Someone once asked me if I have any regrets about my plastic surgeries, but the only regret I have is not having started them sooner.”

Despite her seemingly unrepentant attitude, Zhou Chuna says that her transformation has come at a cost. Liposuction has caused skin on parts of her body to become saggy, the high number of incisions has caused scarring, some of which will never heal, and most worrying of, the frequent anesthesia has caused memory loss.

It’s hard to prove that it was the anesthesia that caused her memory to degrade, but she certainly believes so. Still, these problems are not enough to make her quit her habit.

“It’s impossible for me to not get plastic surgery,” China’s youngest plastic surgery addict said. “I’m ok if I don’t eat or drink water, but I can’t live without plastic surgery. No, I like plastic surgery and I don’t mind anesthetics. When I wake up, I know that I will more beautiful in just seven days.”

“I am never afraid of pain, I am afraid of ugliness,” Zhou concluded.

Tinubu’s Support Group To Ask Youths Be Involved In Party Politics
~1.5 mins read
A group, the Asiwaju National Students Support Organisation (ANSSO) has called on youths across the country to go and register with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The group made the call ahead of the February 2 commencement of membership registration and revalidation by the party.

A statement by the National Coordinator, Comrade Giwa Muritala, lamented about the low youth involvement in party politics, as most youths only agitate without taking some steps to become members of a political party.

He added that the few who join party politics are always afraid of big parties because of the fear of being dominated and would sometimes end up in parties that would not help them achieve their goals.

“We can only have a fruitful negotiation with the older leaders on the proper ratio for both the young and the old when we have a reasonable number of youths as members of the political party, which will form a very strong ground for proper negotiations.

“The membership registration and revalidation exercise about to be commenced by the ruling APC has created a very good window for both youths and students to join party politics. We must all take responsibility by playing our part. Every youth and student who are up to 18 years can vote and be voted for, but the question remains how many are in a place where they can have all that is required to be voted for?

“We have advocated that we are not too young to run, a movement which gained both national and international attention, now is time to perfect the movement for youth participation by getting involved in party politics, register as a party member, unite with other youths and negotiate for a proper sharing formula of all elective positions between the older leaders, the young ones and women, that’s the only way to make headway.

The group further noted that participating in party politics remains the only means of getting into elective positions in Nigeria now.
