Second Wave: PTF Mulls Lockdown In Lagos, Abuja, Plateau -
~2.0 mins read
The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 is considering targeted lockdown in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja; as well as Lagos and Plateau States.

PTF National Incident Manager, Mukhtar Muhammed, who stated this on Friday, described as alarming, the rising cases of Covid infections recorded in the three urban areas.

Muhammed said data showed that urban local governments in the affected places recorded the highest cases of Covid amid the second wave of the pandemic in Nigeria. According to data by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Lagos (46,935 cases), Abuja (16,470 cases), Plateau (7,801) have recorded the highest number of Covid infections and fatalities in Nigeria in the last eleven months.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme monitored by The PUNCH, the PTF official said the Federal Government wants economic activities to continue but these activities must be in a regulated fashion.

When asked of the possibility of a targeted lockdown and not a total lockdown based on data of hotspot areas, Muhammed said, “That is exactly what we did, we have been analysing the data and we have been looking at the geographical areas that have been most affected and the different age groups.”

“Certainly, even if we are going to have a lockdown, it is not going to be a total lockdown. A couple of weeks back, we analysed the data and we identified the hotspot local government areas.

“Mostly, the areas affected are the urban local governments in Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna, Plateau. Even in most other states, it is the urban areas that are involved. So, if we are going to have any restriction, it will be in these areas.

“The urban areas are the most affected and that is why we have these superspreaders and that is where we are going to target. We have analysed that and we are advising the states based on the data that these are the focused areas where these transmissions are more than the others,” he added.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that the Federal Government in March 2020 locked down Abuja Lagos and Ogun for over five weeks as part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 during the first wave of the pandemic.

The lockdown had a tremendous effect on economic activities with the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry putting the loss at about N3bn in the period under review.

Many jobs were also lost as airlines, hotels, banks, amongst others cut their workforce due to the crushing effect of the lockdown.

Nigeria Has Secured 41m Doses Of COVID-19 Vaccine -
~1.8 mins read
Osagie Ehanire, minister of health, says Nigeria has secured an additional 41 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

He disclosed this on Thursday, when he featured on a Channels Television programme.

TheCable had reported that Nigeria had secured 100,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine through the COVAX facility, which is co-led by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and GAVI Alliance.

Although the previously scheduled period for delivery of the 100,000 doses was January 2021, the health minister said the date has now been moved to February, because of the “challenges of getting the supplies”.

Ehanire noted that the additional 41 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines is through the African Vaccine Acquisition Task Team (AVATT), a vaccine strategy organised by the African Union, which is chaired by Cyril Ramaphosa, president of South Africa.

“A mechanism for the African Vaccine Acquisition Task Team (AVATT), of which the minister of health of Nigeria is a member, and the chair is the president of South Africa, was inaugurated in November 2020,” he said.

“At the meeting we had on the 6th of January, it was announced that they had a mix of 270 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines going to be ready, because they are on order.

“Now, we immediately applied for 10 million doses, but at the meeting we had two days ago, the AVATT team announced that they actually had now done allocation according to population.

“Nigeria is allocated 41 million doses of vaccines of three types.”

He explained that the procurement of the vaccines for African countries is being financed by the Afrexim bank, and countries are expected to make a refund on a later date.

When asked about when in February the vaccines will be available to Nigeria, the health minister said he did not have an exact date, adding that manufacturers determine the timing of vaccine availability.

“We do not have an exact date. The date it comes out depends on when the manufacturers are able to deliver, and that is not something any country can enforce,” he said.

On the availability of funds for the procurement of the vaccines, he noted that the COVAX facility doses are free for the first 20 percent of the population, while the country will pay for logistics on delivery and administration.

“Nigeria is mobilising resources. We have some funds ready. We will make a substantial deposit when it is time,” he added.

Avoid Doing These 5 Mistakes When Next You Cook Spaghetti (Details)
~2.9 mins read

Spaghetti is one of meals that people love eating with stew or sauce. But despite that Spaghetti is very easy to cook, a lot of people are still doing some mistakes unknowingly. This is because they didn't know the proper way to cook it. But in this article, i'm going to show you some 5 mistakes which some people are doing while cooking their spaghetti.

1) Using small pot to cook your spaghetti:

This is one of the mistakes some people are doing while cooking spaghetti. Squeezing spaghetti inside small pot when you are about to cook it is totally wrong because it can make the spaghetti to look clumpy. So in order to avoid this, you have to use big pot to cook it.

2) Squeezing your spaghetti inside water before adding salt to it:

A lot of people used to squeeze their spaghetti inside water before they will add salt to it which is very wrong, because the salt will not be able to get into the spaghetti.

If you want to cook spaghetti in a proper way, you have to boil the water first, then put 1 or 2 teaspoon of salt into the boiled water and squeeze the spaghetti inside the water. Don't boil your spaghetti before adding salt to it, it is very wrong.

3) Adding spaghetti to the water too soon:

This is another mistake that many people are doing while cooking spaghetti. Before you will squeeze the spaghetti inside the water, you have to wait for the water to boil first. Squeezing your spaghetti inside the water without waiting for the water to boil will make the spaghetti to look gummy and sticky.

4) Not stirring at your spaghetti while cooking it:

Some people will just squeeze the spaghetti inside water and leave it without paying attention to it while it is on fire. This is very wrong because if the water you poured inside the pot is too much, the water can pour outside from the pot when the temperature is high. So make sure you pay attention to your spaghetti when you are cooking it.

5) Rinsing your spaghetti:

Many people believes that strach isn't wholesome and rinsing it will make it look better. But they forgot that when they are washing the starch away, they are also washing the spaghetti high-quality flavour away.

So instead of doing this, you can sieve, and drain the water and serve it.

Lamido: Buhari’s Failure Responsible For Attacks On Fulani Herdsmen -
~1.6 mins read
THE former governor of Jigawa State , Alhaji Sule Lamido, has said that the unfortunate hatred and attacks on Fulani (herders ) in Nigeria was as a result of the failure of President Muhammadu Buhari to govern the country well.

Lamido, who was a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, made the remark while speaking with newsmen in Kano on Thursday.

He lamented that “ Nigerians after putting in their trust in President Muhammad Buhari, a Fulani head , he has woefully failed to protect and provide good governance for them.
“ That today , Nigerians are so blindfolded on the hatred and apparent dislike of Fulani because President Buhari ’s misgovernance , forgetting that not all Fulani even voted for him or like him . ”

He added, “ You can see that myself as a Fulani, I didn ’ t vote for Buhari and our parties are completely different, but at the same time, the Yoruba in Tinubu , the Igbo in Ngige and the South - South in Ameachi, were the ones who firmly stood behind him to win the election , not even the Fulanis.

“ I expected Bola Tinubu , Rotimi Ameachi and the likes of Ngige to come out and frankly speak in protections of the Fulani because they are behind the election of Buhari who is a Fulani head and who also benefited immensely from his government not even the Herders , who are today being persecuted.

“ But their criminal silence in the face of the horrible attacks on Fulani after benefitTing jointly in the government led by a Fulani figurehead, is worrisome and something like a betrayal of trust to the President and his kinsmen, ” Lamido said .

According to him, “ Fulani Herders are very peaceful and enterprising people who pursue nature and live by the nature. They are never violent ; it is not fair because Buhari failed and all other Fulanis should be castigated .”

He said , “ Today , the northerners and the entire Fulani race are not in peace even in the North . The insecurity and the killings plus kidnappings created by the APC -led Buhari regime have affected everyone . So, to bully them and see them as Nigeria problems is adding dangerous salt to their injuries” .
