Nigeria In Middle Of Second COVID-19 Wave, ReInfections Happening - LUTH Doctors
~2.3 mins read
Says some patients discharged in the past are coming down with virus

Resident Doctors at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, on Monday warned that Nigerians should be wary of COVID-19 second wave as some patients discharged of COVID-19 in the past are coming down with the virus again even as they posited that recent event suggests the country is in the middle of another pandemic.

Briefing journalists, President of ARD LUTH, Dr.Judith Jolayemi called on all citizens of Nigeria, organizations, institutions, and the government to return to the status quo by reinstating the previously initiated precautionary actions towards preventing the spread of the virus.

Jolayemi said: “Schools after vacating this month maybe considered to remain closed until the epidemic curve begins to reverse.

Government at all levels should continue to enforce laws regarding adherence to safety protocols, scale-up covid-19 testing, improve infrastructure and services across boarding including the airports and ensure the delivery of Covid-19 vaccines at the earliest time possible.”

Speaking, a Senior Registrar at the LUTH COVID-19 Isolation Centre, Dr Folarin Opawoye, Nigerians attitude towards the non-pharmaceutical guideline are making the country lose the gains it achieved in the past.

Opawoye who spoke during a COVID-19 Awareness briefing as part of the Association’s Week regretted that despite the successes recorded in the fight against COVID-19, the majority of the cases they are seeing suggest huge community transmission.

“The reality is that reopening of the airport is not the major factor but what we are doing to ourselves. When you want to access COVID-19 response, I think we have done a good job because compare to what was predicted and what is going on in other parts of the world. However, we can’t rest on our success because it’s not about how we started but how we end.”

Opawoye warned that people must do their part to avoid another lockdown, “Lockdown can be challenging especially in this environment because of socio-economic indices of the people. A lot of people have to go out every day before they can eat.

“But there are so many other things we can do without going through the lockdown, if everybody is wearing their nose mask, social and physical distance, avoid unnecessary gathering and travelling as recommended by NCDC.

He disclosed that doctors are tired of managing COVID-19 patients. “There was a time we have more than 100 cases on admission at the same time, you can imagine doing ward round for them that is very hard, we can’t go back to that time, so we are pleading with everybody.

“The reality with Covid-19 is that you can’t predict who will have a negative outcome. For instance, we have discharged 98 years old and lost five years old. If you say it is people with an underline condition that are at risk, you don’t know what you are carrying in your body because many people don’t go for a routine check. We have seen many healthy people that died from covid-19. We have seen people who have it and those who contracted it from them died.”

Edo 2020: Obaseki Loses As Appeal Court Tells Him He Has A Case To Answer

Obaseki Fails To Stop Perjury, Certificate Forgery Case Against Him

...Appeal Court To Governor: “Return To The High Court, You Have A Case To Answer”

...“I'm Ready To Sacrifice My Christmas Holiday To Hear The Matter” — High Court Judge

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has told Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State to return to the Federal High Court in Abuja for an accelerated hearing in the case of certificate forgery and perjury preferred against him.

Besides, Igbere TV reports that the trial Judge, Justice Ahmed Mohammed gave assurance of his preparedness to forfeit this Christmas holiday for the speedy and timely hearing of the case even if it has to be on a daily basis
.A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr William Edobor and the party had preferred the case of forgery and perjury preferred against Obaseki at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The plaintiffs in the suit marked FHC/B/CS/74/2020, sighted by Igbere TV, prayed the court for an order disqualifying Obaseki from contesting the September 19 Edo governorship election on the grounds that he supplied false information on oath to INEC, an act said to be contrary to Section 31(5) and (6) of the Electoral Act, 2010.

They accused the governor of forging his university certificate presented to INEC in aid of his qualification for the governorship election in Edo State. The plaintiffs also claimed that there are discrepancies in the subject Obaseki claimed he passed in his West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exam.

Igbere TV had reported how Obaseki through his lawyer Ken Mozia, SAN applied to the Federal High Court to expunge some pleadings of the plaintiffs; an application the court declined.

Obaseki thereafter approached the appellate court to challenge the refusal and decision of the high court to expunge some paragraphs in the APC's reply to his affidavit and applied for a stay of proceedings and for the matter to be adjourned sine die (indefinitely) at the Federal High Court pending the determination of the appeal.

However, Chief Akin Olujimi, counsel to the APC who argued for the party urged the court to dismiss Obaseki's motion for indefinite adjournment of the certificate forgery suit on the grounds that it was a pre-election matter and was bound by time.

Olujimi contended that since the case had a life span of 180 days that would terminate by January 2021, it was in the interest of justice for the court to continue with proceedings.

But the application by Governor Obaseki for a permanent stay of prosecution scaled through on Wednesday and hearing of the main suit was stalled, forcing the APC to return to the Appeal Court in Abuja.

Justice Ahmed Mohammed had in the ruling on Wednesday said the court was not in doubt that an appeal had been lodged and both counsel conceded.

Whether to proceed with the main suit or stay proceedings – the Judge said, “this court is not prepare to go on a collision course with the court of appeal and the suit is adjourned” to allow the appellate court determine the case before it.

HAVERTZ'S PROBLEM, WERNER'S FATIGUE AND LAMPARD'S BIG LESSON FOR CHELSEA AFTER WOLVES DEFEAT
~4.7 mins read
Kai Havertz disappointed again but it was notable that there was no mention of the German’s performance during Frank Lampard’s post-match press conference - mostly because the head coach has said all that can be said.

It is quite straightforward: patience is required. Havertz is 21, living away from home for the first time with a £72million price tag on his shoulders and has recently overcome a severe bout of coronavirus.

Yes, the game at Molineux passed him by and most concerning will be the ease with which he was bullied off the ball on more than one occasion last night.
This looks unlikely to be an overnight success story. That, sadly, will not stop the social media vultures from pronouncing him a flop. Such takes never help but all Havertz can do right now is focus on getting back to what made him such a success at Bayer Leverkusen.

Werner needs a rest

Lampard was asked about his players showing signs of fatigue afterwards. Although keen to stress it was not an excuse for the defeat, he did say there is tiredness in the ranks. And while he did not name any names specifically, it was not hard to read between the lines.

Werner has played more minutes than any of his team-mates but the injuries to Callum Hudson-Odoi, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic have made it hard for Lampard to rest him in the past couple of weeks.

Werner has played more minutes than any of his team-mates but the injuries to Callum Hudson-Odoi, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic have made it hard for Lampard to rest him in the past couple of weeks.

“There could be some fatigue,” Lampard said. “I hate to say it after a defeat because it could sound like an excuse but even the first 60 minutes when we were the better team we didn't have a zip about us. We have travelled up to Everton, come back and up to Wolves but everyone is in the same boat on that front.

“At the moment we have a couple of injuries in areas that mean I can't make too many changes or rotations in certain areas of the team. So I understand that side of it but when you are 1-0 up and turn the result around I wouldn't say it was because of fatigue.”

A big lesson

The test for Lampard now is to ensure that his team get out of this blip quickly. West Ham United took four points from six last season and are on a fine run of form. They face Crystal Palace tonight before heading to Stamford Bridge on Monday evening in the teams' final game before Christmas.

Getting back to winning ways is crucial but Lampard again pointed out that he was not getting carried away when some observers were framing his team as title contenders.

He said: “Everyone sung our praises and I was the last one to do that as it is my job to stay level headed at both ends. So I shouldn’t stay too disappointed tonight as much as I didn’t get too elated after Leeds on the back of a really good run.

"Clearly, when we perform like we did today that’s not the game management and quality levels that we are striving for. I still think there’s a lot of improving to do within the group so I wouldn’t say I am massively surprised.

“What my experience of the Premier League tells me is that if you drop your stance, which we have in the last two games, particularly away from home then you can lose football matches so it is a big lesson for the players there.”

Abraham and especially Mount have kicked on. Tomori has made one substitute appearance in the Premier League and two League Cup starts this season and has reached an early career crossroads.

A loan in January seems the best option but he turned down an opportunity to go to West Ham United on October’s deadline day because of concerns over that move being the right fit.

Lampard has spoken positively about Tomori’s long-term prospects but he is fifth-choice centre back, failing to even get a run out in the Champions League dead rubber against Krasnodar, and needs to be playing games to ensure his development is not stunted.

Anglican Church Suspends Bishop Adepoju For Having Sex With Reverend’s Wife
~1.0 mins read
The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, has suspended Rt. Reverend Rufus Victor Ajileye Adepoju as the Diocesan Bishop in charge of Ekiti West diocese with immediate effect.

This was conveyed in a letter dated December 11, 2020, and signed by the Primate of the Anglican Communion, Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba.

Mr. Adepoju was reproached by the Anglican hierarchy for sexually fraternising with the wife of a priest placed under his employment and care.

The embattled clergyman, who was yanked off his designated role and barred from participating in all activities of the diocese for a period of one year, was said to have owned up to the misconduct when confronted by leaders of the church who investigated the matter on December 10.

The priest whose wife Mr. Adepoju allegedly had affairs with and the woman were not named in the suspension letter, which has been in circulation on social media since Tuesday afternoon.

The excommunicated priest was urged to leverage his period of suspension to “seek the face of God.”

The Anglican Communion is long renowned for its stringent disciplinary policies, especially for erring clergies.

A venerable in charge of an Archdeaconry in Aguata Diocese of the church in Anambra was demoted in September for sitting close to an erstwhile priest, who had earlier been dismissed for homosexuality.
