Dayot Upamecano Responds To Transfer Speculation As Man Utd's Stance Changes
~1.9 mins read
Dayot Upamecano insists he is fully focused on RB Leipzig amid claims that Manchester United could make a move before next month’s transfer deadline.
The French international starred for the German side last season, as they reached the Champions League semi-finals.
And he took the step in July of signing a contract extension with RBL, until 2023, having entered the last year of his contract.
That new deal is understood to contain a release clause in the region of £52million - but which only comes into effect next summer.
United have not moved for a new centre-back this summer - 12 months after breaking the world transfer record for a defender with Harry Maguire’s arrival.
But after losing to Crystal Palace in their Premier League opener - in which both Maguire and partner Victor Lindelof struggled - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ed Woodward are re-evaluating whether to bring in defensive reinforcements in the next two weeks.
Wilf Zaha and the Palace attack exploited a lack of recovery speed between the United duo throughout the 90 minutes, while Lindelof in particular struggled one-v-one with Zaha.
Old Trafford chiefs are now eyeing potential recruits with the kind of top-level speed required to allow the side to play a higher defensive line - increasingly required at Europe’s elite level - and who can cope in those head-to-head duels.
Top of their list is expected to be Upamecano, who is admired by United and a host of European giants - including rivals City, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
Upamecano spoke on his immediate future amid growing speculation on Wednesday, telling Telefoot in France: “For the moment I am with Leipzig but it is true that I was able to discuss with certain clubs.
“As I said, for now I am focused on Leipzig and I will continue to play for Leipzig. And then we’ll see.
“You never know what can happen in a football season.’
While United are keen on Upamecano however, Mirror Football understands that the club do not believe they will be able to sign him from RB Leipzig this window.
With the Bundesliga season up and running, RBL will charge well in excess of next summer’s release clause to part with him now.
And while discussions have been had, United are unwilling to part with a major premium - particularly while struggling to find buyers willing to meet their own asking prices for a number of defenders currently on their books.
As such, Eric Bailly, who played the full 90 minutes at Luton alongside Maguire on Tuesday, may soon be handed greater opportunities provided he can prove his fitness.

Luis Suarez In Tears As He Sends Farewell Message To Barcelona Supporters
~1.6 mins read
Luis Suarez insisted he will always remain a Barcelona fan in an emotional farewell press conference.
Barca announced on Wednesday that they had reached agreement with LaLiga rivals Atletico Madrid for the 33-year-old striker.
“I want all the Culers (Barca fans) to know that I’ll always be one more Culer, regardless of where I am,” Suarez said on Barca TV.
“Thank you to all the fans for everything they have done supporting me, cheering me on from day one.
“The support I have had from everyone inside the Camp Nou, from the staff, a massive effort from everyone and this is so important to me and will always stay with me
Amid all the upheaval at Barca this summer surrounding Lionel Messi’s future, it emerged that Suarez did not feature in the plans of head coach Ronald Koeman, who replaced Quique Setien in August.
Suarez had appeared set to join Italian champions Juventus, but a move to Turin collapsed after complications over the Uruguayan’s passport application.
Barcelona signed Suarez from Liverpool in July 2014 for £74million, shortly after he had been banned for four months by FIFA for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup in Brazil.
I want to say that the club has always had such confidence in me since 2014 when they signed me,” Suarez said.
“And the conditions [in which] I came and the mistake that I made, but they surrounded me with the confidence that they always had in me. It wasn’t easy to accept this.
“The coaches and my team-mates, the way they accepted me when I came, it was amazing.”
Suarez, hugely popular among the club’s fans and in the dressing room, is third in Barca’s all-time scoring list, with 198 goals in 283 games in all competitions.
He won 13 major trophies during his six seasons at Camp Nou, including four LaLiga titles, four Copa del Reys and the Champions League.
“All the people know the sacrifice I’ve made in these years to come to Barcelona and to play for the best team in the world,” he added.
“I’m aware that we’re at the end of an era, that I should be very proud of everything that we’ve done.”

Arsenal 'eyeing Surprise Swoop' For Chelsea Star Jorginho As Thomas Partey Alternative
~1.5 mins read
Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a move for Chelsea star Jorginho after failing in their bids for other midfield targets.
The Gunners have been unable to prise either Atletico Madrid's Thomas Partey or Lyon's Houssem Aouar from their respective clubs but Mikel Arteta has not given up on finding a solution.
Jorginho was linked with the exit door at Stamford Bridge earlier in the summer as speculation suggested he could complete a switch to Juventus.
That move became more unlikely following the sacking of Maurizio Sarri, but he could have a new option on the table amid Arsenal's interest.
According to Sky Sports , Arteta is keen on adding the 28-year-old to his squad before deadline day.
Jorginho has been on Arteta'a radar for some time given he was subject to interest from Man City during the Spaniard's time as Pep Guardiola's no.2.
However Jorginho still appears to be a big part of Frank Lampard's plans at Chelsea.
The Blues' vice-captain has started both league games for the club so far this season.
While Lampard is blessed with a wealth of midfielders, he does not have many options for players who can sit in front of the back four, where Jorginho is most adept.
Should Chelsea manage to offload Jorginho for a sizeable fee though it could raise the funds required for them to make a move for Declan Rice, but West Ham are currently refusing to sell their star man.
Arsenal are in a similar boat with their finances as they are waiting to sell Lucas Torreira before making a fresh bid for Partey or Aouar.
Atletico knocked back two bids for Partey earlier in the window as they were not interested in taking Matteo Guendouzi in part-exchange.
They are currently in talks over taking Torreira on loan though, but that deal is not thought to involve Partey.
Lyon meanwhile have rejected similar offers from Arsenal as they are only keen on a straight cash sale for Aouar, who is valued at around £54million.

£80million Star Player Tells Club He Wants To Join Chelsea After Latest Development
~1.8 mins read

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Declan Rice is set to tell West Ham he wants a transfer to Chelsea this summer.

Chelsea have been heavily linked with Rice as Frank Lampard continues his summer spending but West Ham are unwilling to sell the England international who they value at around £80million.

Speaking on the Here We Go podcast, Romano said “Chelsea are trying to do the same [as Liverpool]. ‘We want the big targets and not the plan B back up option’

“If you talk with West Ham, you have to be honest they’re saying the player is staying and the player is not moving.

“It won’t be easy and Chelsea are now considering selling players. But Declan Rice will push to join Chelsea. He will go strongly to join Chelsea

“We will have to see what will happen because he also respects West Ham as normal but he’s going to tell West Ham ‘I want to join Chelsea’.

“Now it’s time to see what Chelsea will bid for Declan Rice because Chelsea are still yet to make an offer.”

Man Utd Fans Spot Bruno Fernandes Giving Tactical Advice From Sidelines In Luton Win
~1.6 mins read
Manchester United fans spotted Bruno Fernandes in deep discussions with Eric Bailly over his passing selection during the 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Luton Town on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old, who signed from Sporting Lisbon in January, is known to be a vocal figure on and off the pitch, and certainly hasn't shied away from taking responsibility and becoming something of a leader at United.
Fernandes started the game on the bench and did not appear fully happy with what he saw in an opening 45 minutes in which his side struggled to make their superiority count, requiring a late Juan Mata penalty to go in 1-0 up at the break.
Centre-back Bailly had a particularly shaky first-half, and as the team made their way onto the pitch for the second period it was noticeable that Fernandes was deep in conversation with the Ivorian, seemingly signalling how he should change his passing technique.
Fernandes eventually came on for the final ten minutes and helped his side see out what was in the end a 3-0 victory, and Red Devils fans will no doubt be delighted to see the Portuguese star continuing to have a big influence on the team.
He garnered something of a reputation as a penalty expert last season after he converted all eight of the spot kicks he took, but he has recently hinted that he may allow his teammate Marcus Rashford to take more in the current campaign.
"It doesn't matter if I take penalties," Fernandes said. “We have a lot of qualities in the team, like I've said before. I already talked with some players.
Rashy was the guy who took the penalties, so I tell him, 'when you feel confident, if you want to take the penalty, for me, it is not a problem.' I will not fight.’
"I feel confident with penalties and I want to take them but, if someone comes to me to ask to take a penalty, I will not fight every time, just to take a penalty.
"In that moment, I can be tired or not prepared to take a penalty and I can say easily, 'you take it.'
"The most important thing is scoring for Manchester United. It doesn’t matter if it is Bruno or someone else."
