The Caretaker Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Tunde Balogun, has said that the founding members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had a gentleman agreement that the South-West zone will produce the 2023 presidential candidate of the party.
Balogun, also said that it will be unfair for the party not to fulfill the agreement reached in the presence of President Muhammadu Buhari, Bola Tinubu and other top members of the party that he failed to mention.
The state chairman who spoke to The Punch, added that he believes the party’s founding fathers would honour the agreement.
Recall that the APC during its National Executive Committee meeting held on Tuesday and chaired by Buhari approved the extension of the six-month tenure of the Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker/Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee for another six months.
The NEC also ordered the immediate dissolution of the organs of the party from the polling units level to the non National Working Committee component of the National Executive Committee, reconstituting them thereafter only on caretaker capacity.
The decisions didn’t go down well with some members of the party who believe the move is an attempt by some unnamed party members to manipulate the party process and dictate things ahead of 2023 general elections.
Although 2023 is still far ahead, the various geopolitical zones are already heating up the polity with agitations and demands aimed at taking over the number one seat in the country.
