Liver diseases and damage are caused by the different substances we consume mainly alcohol. Infections and genetics can also lead to liver damage. Liver failure refers to the inability of the liver to perform its normal functions eg bile production.

It can be a life threatening emergency and therefore it is necessary for one to take measures and avoid its causes by all means. It can either be acute or chronic. The difference between the two is that acute liver failure comes on quickly while chronic comes slowly.

Liver damage accumulates through different stages. Each stage is accompanied with effects to the normal functioning of the liver with its functioning gradually reducing as the stages advance.

The main substance you must avoid if you want to ensure that your liver continues to perform its vital functions is alcohol. Excessive alcohol consumption leads to liver cirrhosis which is the scarring of the liver.

5 Common Mistakes JAMB Students Make On The Day Of Their Exam And How To Avoid Them
~3.1 mins read
The Joint Matriculation and Administration Board (JAMB) organizes a Computer Based Test (CBT) for students who wish to further their education beyond O'Level. This CBT is conducted yearly and before this new innovation, it was formerly a Paper and Pencil Test (PPT). The board noticed that most candidates find it difficult to use the computer for the test, hence the reason why they introduced Mock Examination that will introduce the candidates to what they are supposed to do on the day of the examination.

As a tutor and teacher, I have discovered that some JAMB students make some avoidable mistakes on the day of their CBT and that is why I decided to write this article to let you know the common mistakes that they make and how to avoid them.

Below are the five (5) common mistakes JAMB students make on the day of their CBT and how to avoid them:

1. Going Late To Your CBT Center

I guess as a JAMB student you should know that it is very important to know locate your CBT center few days before your examination so as to get used to the area. There is one mistake most JAMB students make every year and that is late arrival; arriving at your CBT center 30-45 minutes before your examination boost your confidence level and also make you to be in a balanced state of mind.

Most JAMB students arrive at their CBT center when exam is about to start, and you see some of them begging the examiners. To avoid this, ensure you get to your CBT center at least 30 minutes before your examination.

2. Answering 'Difficult' Subjects First

No matter how prepared you are, you still have a particular subject you know best. Most students attempt difficult subjects first and midway they become so confused and their confidence level start dropping. Starting with a difficult subject may make you feel you never prepared for the exam, so to avoid this, attend to the subject you know best.

For instance, if you are not good in Physics but very good in Biology, it will be suicidal if you start answering Physics questions. Try to always use the KNOWN to UNKNOWN approach.

3. Spending Too Much Time On A Question

I have some students complain about time; some even said that they were not able to answer all the questions and were logged out. The major cause of this is spending too much time on a particular question. If you see a tough question and you find yourself spending more than a minute analysing it, it it better to leave the question and attend to others so as to save time.

4. Giving A Listening Ear To Pessimistic People

When I wrote my first JAMB in 2012, I was so naive and scared on the day of my exam after I gave a listening ear to a fellow JAMB student who was narrating how he has been writing the exam for years and keep failing. From the way he talked, he was not optimistic that he was going to pass the exam and this sent an impulse of fear down my spine, but thank God I was able to overcome the fear before entering the examination hall.

One of the secret to success is optimism; always tell yourself at all times that you can do it because what you say is what you become. So when you get to your CBT center, do not give a listening ear to pessimistic people.

5. Pretending You Know How To Use The Computer

Despite the fact that the world is advancing towards technology, there are still some people who do not know basic computer operation. We have seen some students who pretend they how to operate the computer, only for them to log themselves out midway into the examination. If you are not sure of what to do when you are told to start your exam, draw the attention of the examiner to put you through to avoid making costly mistakes.

Having said all these, it is important to note that the 'God' factor must not be forgotten in any examination.
