HURIWA urges army to spare campaigners
Hoodlums disperse protesters in Osogbo

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has warned police officers and their commanders against use of force on peaceful protesters.

He reiterated citizens’ rights to freedom of expression, assembly and movement, which should be protected by the police. Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), DCP Frank Mba, who disclosed this yesterday in Abuja, noted that the IGP also appealed to protesters to conduct themselves peacefully and guard their ranks against infiltration by criminal elements.

SIMILARLY, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has appealed to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, to ensure that the improved human rights records of the army under him is not destroyed by the temptation to dabble into the national outrage against police excesses.

It said the nationwide protests against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) are constitutional, adding that on no account should the exercise be mistaken for a threat to national security.

HURIWA also called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, to release those picked up by SARS in Enugu South Council of Enugu State few hours after the disbandment of SARS.

To this end, HURIWA warned the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to respect the rights to peaceful assembly, stressing that the FCT Minister, Mohammed Bello, had power to annul the constitutional right of the citizens to protest lawfully.

THERE was chaos in Osogbo, Osun State, yesterday as some hoodlums disrupted the demonstrations and dispersed protesters. The hoodlums, suspected to be cultists, wielding cutlasses, axe and charms, stormed Oke-Fia junction in Osogbo, where the protesters had gathered to continue their agitation, before a clash ensued.

Some protesters had gathered at Oke-fia around 7.30a.m., blocking the road leading to Osun State Government House before other youths join them at Olaiya junction.

Some civil society groups in the state faulted the unusual dimensions the protests had taken since Wednesday. But the state government has promised to ensure that the demonstrations remained peaceful in the state

Remember The Ball Boy That Was Mistakenly Kicked By A Former Chelsea Star?see What He Is Into Now
~3.1 mins read
Football is a game of passion and love. It's one of the sports games that come with a lot of feelings and dramas. There was a special football match between Chelsea and Swansea City on January 23, 2013. It was the Capital one Cup semi-final between Chelsea and Swansea city which Chelsea was removed by Swansea city. During the game, when the ball was out of play, the ball boy named Charlie Morgan chose to waste time during the second half by keeping onto the ball. Charlie declined to give the ball back to Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard, accidentally kicking him during the process of trying to get the ball from him. A red card was given to Hazard and they were sent off the pitch.
He was later brought by his father to see Hazard. On Chelsea TV, Hazard apologized, saying, " I think I kicked the ball and not the boy." I apologize. The boy came and we had a talk in the dressing room and I apologized and he apologized. It is over. "Sorry." Eden Hazard was so nice and gracious to do that In 2019, Hazard left Chelsea for Real Madrid, where he is currently playing. The 29-year-old professional midfielder is currently trying to give his new club his best.
Charlie Morgan, at the moment, is doing well. Charlie has been a wealthy entrepreneur, he is currently the co-owner of a British brand called "Au Vodka" which has become the highest-selling alcoholic drink in the Uk market. This is what he is about and he has been doing well at the moment.

From a "ball boy to a co-owner" such is life.

Tokyo 2020: Sports Minister Endears Himself To Team Nigeria Athletes
~1.5 mins read
Nigeria’s Minister of Youth, Sports, and Social Development Sunday Dare has become a beacon of hope to Team Nigeria athletes at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics in Japan.

The energetic Sports Minister has shown his passion since stepping into the Land of the Rising Sun, ensuring that he watches and cheers Nigerian athletes in their events. In most cases, he’s the lone voice armed with his Green-White-Green flag, urging the athletes on.

The past 24 hours of the Olympics was not a particularly good one for Team Nigeria with her athletes losing out in their respective events, from taekwondo to table tennis, and gymnastics. The Minister has, however, remained stoically behind the athletes, bringing to fore Henry Ford’s saying that failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

At Elizabeth Anyanacho’s fight, where she lost 12-7 to double Olympic medallist and former world champion, Nur Tartar of Turkey, the Minister hailed her courage for a debutant in the Olympics to fight with so much vim and vitality.

“You’ve done well against a world champion. Keep your focus. The world will soon rise to salute you in the near future,” he was heard telling the 22-year-old taekwondoist after her loss.

When Nigeria’s remaining competitor in the women’s table tennis single’s event Offiong Edem lost, Dare was on hand to console her saying, “you exhibited strength and talent. Nigeria thanks you for making the country proud at the Olympics.”

Amid the tumultuous Tokyo Olympics greatly affected by Covid-19, where athletes have seen their training and competition schedules affected and fans shut out from events, Sports Minister Dare has brought so much hope and confidence to Nigerian athletes.

No doubt, Team Nigeria can never forget the importance of discipline, athlete’s welfare priority brought by Dare and the importance of connecting us as a people and building a winning culture of communication, trust and teamwork.
